It all started in 1974 with my first small collection of singles (40 singles, all without covers, the stand still exists with almost all of the singles) and a record player. In 1983, I got my first mixer, and I experimented a lot with it. Officially, it all started in August 1986 at the “Tanzcafé Europa,” where my buddy Pedro and I used to go for a beer. The first gig was very low-key, as I was not a fan of microphones, which is something no one believes me today. But the music was right, and a year later I was the master DJ at the club. In 1988, I moved to Badbergen to work at Diskothek 2000, before returning to Quakenbrück and “Tanzcafé Europa“ in early 1990. I also started DJing at private parties and, in 1993, took over the management of “Tanzcafé Europa“, which had been renamed Kostas Bierstube due to a change of ownership.
When I was offered the management of the Käfer in the Luisen Center in early ’95, I couldn’t say no. Here, too, I had the opportunity to DJ at parties from time to time. In mid-1995, we expanded the disco into three areas, so that in addition to the main disco and the oldies disco, we now also had the Funk & Soul, where rock was also played. Private parties were virtually non-existent at that time.
That changed when the pub closed. Since then, there have been occasional appearances in various discos, including from 2008 until the end of 2010 at Bolero II in Ankum and FIZ Oblon II in Nortrup. However, the main focus was on events such as birthdays, weddings, company parties, club celebrations, presentations, silver weddings, etc., except for Schützenfeste which I don’t want to do.
I also don’t want to miss the many years with our project “Rock for Tibet,” which was a lot of fun. Or, since 2008, the New Year’s Eve run in Mühlen, where people run for a good cause.
Since August 2, 2020, I’ve been doing relatively regular shows on Radioartland, where I introduce listeners to producers, record labels, music studios, genres, and my latest vinyl records, among other things. Listeners‘ requests also get airtime on my show “Wunschpunsch.”
And what else? I’m sure I’ve forgotten to mention one or two locations or events, or maybe they didn’t fit into my text, but that doesn’t matter. I don’t know how many events I’ve covered, but I’d guess it’s in the four-digit range. And there are sure to be a few more to come.
